pick me a printer!

Okay, I'm officially looking for a printer. And I need to purchase one ASAP (by this weekend). I'm only looking to spend up to $300.00 or so. I'm looking for something that can print out CD labels/covers etc with good resolution. I'd also like to be able to print out digital photos, obviously. Nothing larger that 8x10, really, and I'm not really dead-set on being capable of printing up to that size - 5" x 7" would be sufficient if it allowed for all the cd-printing. I work on Macs at home, so obviously it would need to be compatible.

Does anyone have any ideas? I haven't really ever owned a printer, so I know NOTHING about what to look for spec-wise. Any help is encouraged and treasured!!

Lessee, if you'd be doing color printing, I'd suggest as high-end an Epson as you can manage. The best full-page photo printing that I've ever seen was from an Epson inkjet. Epsons are generally pretty Mac-friendly, as well. That said, the best photo printing that I've ever seen, bar none, is this tiny HP printer that only (I think...) does 4x6...maybe 5x7, as well. I don't know for sure that you could do CDs with it, but my goodness it's sharp; the walls in my office are littered with its spawn. My .02.

I've been happy with my Epson 1280 Photo but I think that's more than you need. It prints large format stuff and full bleed. I think any of the Epson Photo printers would work fine for you. Cost for a printer is minimal it's the F'n ink cartridges that are Motherf'rs! I am also Apple based.

a splendid idea, RB. I, too, noticed the GBMINI's post about the new batch he's received, and I'm certainly mulling it over...

It really has been one of the best things I have ever bought for mine. Ian makes a great product. It took me, and I'm kind of a klutz, all of 25 minutes to install...RB
