at an impasse

So what with my TV being broken and all, I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do next. I called around to a couple of TV repair places, and received different guessed diagnoses from each. It sounds like the cost to fix will be at LEAST $130. It could go as high as $200.

My TV has never been "awesome". Sure, it's a 32", and it's a Samsung, so it's stylized pretty nice - but it's no HD Flat-Screen Plasma display. I could go out and drop $200-500 on a new screen - more adequately-sized for my bedroom and all, and maybe even HD-ready. But, right now really isn't the time for me to be spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a new TV.

Ack! I keep swaying from one direction to the other - I just cannot figure out what to do!

things people have said

Get the HD-ready TV. You'll end up getting one eventually, right? It sounds like you enjoy relaxing to your TV shows, so why not just plug your nose & jump in!

When Robert & I got our HDTV, we spent the next several months makeing comments like, "I can't believe how life-like the screen is", "Look at the pores on that actress", and "Finding Nemo looks like an aquarium in our livingroom". The picture is so incredible, you'll be able to tell all the make-up artists' secrets.

Once you go HD, you'll be spoiled for life...even movies at the theatre won't be good enough for you anymore.

So just do it! You won't be sorry (whereas you will be sorry spending good money on an old TV that sounds like it's on its last leg anyway).
